One of the longest-running storylines in the Assassin's Creed franchise has been the war between the Templars and the Assassins. In Assassin's Creed Shadows, this conflict was largely pushed to the side, with the Templars playing a smaller--but still crucial role--in the plot, and according to Ubisoft, fans can expect to see this secret war expanded in the future.

The Critical Role reference that Luc mentioned was a collaboration with the Dungeons & Dragons group, which was a canonical event set in the world of Assassin's Creed Shadows. While it remains to be seen where the Templars will pop up next in the Assassin's Creed timeline, Ubisoft remained vague when asked about the game's lack of a modern-day storyline and if we'll see more of it in the future.
