Super Mario Galaxy Nintendo Switch Collection Preorders Are Live
Preorders for the Super Mario Galaxy collection for Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 are starting to go live at major retailers. Priced at $70, Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 launches October 2 in physical and digital formats. Nintendo announced the enhanced editions of the beloved Wii games during the latest Nintendo Direct.
The first Galaxy game was previously featured in the Super Mario 3D All-Stars Collection, which has been out of print for years and is no longer sold on the eShop. This is the first time Super Mario Galaxy 2 will be playable on Nintendo's modern hardware.
Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2
$70
The Super Mario Galaxy collection saves you 10 bucks versus buying each $40 game individually from the eShop. Nintendo is offering a free upgrade for Switch 2 with performance improvements. The update will be available at launch for anyone who buys the physical or digital version of Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2.
In docked mode, the games will run in 1080p on Switch and 4K on Switch 2. Each game supports conventional button/stick controls as well as motion controls for those who want to stick with the original experience from the Wii games. Like several other modern Mario games, Assist Mode has been added to make these platformers more approachable for newcomers and youngsters.
Super Mario Galaxy - Rosalina's Storybook (Hardcover)
$25
Nintendo has also added new Rosalina's Storybook chapters and will release the original Storybook--excluding the new pages--as an actual book for $25 on November 25. Rosalina's Storybook is published by Dark Horse and includes full-color illustrations.
In addition to being part of Super Mario's 40th Anniversary celebrations, the collection helps these games reach new players before The Super Mario Galaxy Movie premieres in theaters next April. Nintendo is also releasing two Amiibo figures featuring Mario and Rosalina (and Luma, of course). The Amiibo won't be available when the collection launches; instead, Nintendo is saving the new figures for the movie's release month. Both Mario Galaxy Amiibo will hit store shelves April 2, 2026. Pricing details haven't been confirmed, but the figures will likely retail for $30 each.
