Watchmen Chapter 1
$20 (was $34)
For fans of the source material, you can pick up Watchmen Chapter 1 and Chapter 2 for $20 each. This is a faithful-to-a-fault adaptation of the superhero murder-mystery, as Warner Bros. used CG-animation to make the film look like an uncanny replica of Gibbons' original artwork.
It's an almost exact duplicate of the original 12-issue series from almost 40 years ago, and while it is admirable at how faithful this version is, some of it doesn't quite translate that well to this media format. Still, if you're looking to see the Watchmen story in motion, this is worth picking up.
Watchmen Chapter 2
$20 (was $30)
Picking up right after the vigilante Rorscharch is framed for murder and imprisoned, Watchmen Chapter 2 moves along at a brisk pace toward its shocking finale.
Watchmen: Ultimate Cut (4k)
$15 (was $35)
This is the Ultimate Cut edition of Zack Snyder's take on Watchmen, and while it sticks fairly close to the comic books, it does take some liberties along the way. It's still a slick action-thriller with perfect casting throughout, and it looks amazing in motion. The Ultimate Cut edition features an impressive selection of bonus materials, as well as the animated Tales of the Black Freighter, incorporated into the movie.
Watchmen (HBO Limited Series)
$13 (was $40)
Several years later, a sequel to the Watchmen comic books was released in the form of the confusingly titled Watchmen series on HBO. Picking up decades after the world was "saved" by the machinations of Ozymandias, the nine-episode series introduced new characters, themes, and a brand-new mystery. Critically acclaimed, Watchmen won numerous awards after it aired, including several Primetime Emmys.
The original Watchmen comic books are also readily available, and they come in several editions. The Watchmen regular paperback version is a consistent bestseller, and there's a pocket-friendly edition from DC's line of Compact Comics, but if you feel like spoiling yourself, you can grab deluxe and collector's edition versions of this all-time classic. The Watchmen Deluxe Edition is a reprint of the story on high-quality paper and includes 32 pages of bonus content.
The Watchmen Collector's Edition has been discounted to $70, and this version reproduces the entire series as 12 single-issue hardcovers, utilizing high-quality, recolored pages from Watchmen: Absolute Edition. It also comes in a slipcase to keep all of the issues in mint condition. Lastly, Before Watchmen completes the set, as you can get the entire run of mini-series focused on characters like Rorschach and Ozymandias inside of an omnibus hardcover edition. This prequel featured the best talent from the comic book industry at the time, resulting in fascinating tales created by notable creators such as Brian Azzarello, Darwyn Cooke, Amanda Conner, J.G. Jones, Lee Bermejo, and many more prominent names.
